Candlesticks or candle holders?
Do you own candlesticks or candle holders? The home furnishing that has more than style.
HOME FURNISHINGS
Modern times give us the freedom of turning the lights on with the flip of a switch. I can remember as a kid in the '80's when the power would go out, mom and dad would have oil lanterns and candles lit so my sister and I wouldn't have to stay in the dark.
Candles aren't as necessary today as they were 150 years ago. In 1878 Joseph Swan invented the first incandescent light bulb some called the electric lamp. Swan's bulbs burned out quite fast. The same year Thomas Edison founded the Edison Electric Light Company and started buying all available patents on electric lamps and light bulbs. By 1879 Edison had thousands of failed experiments to produce a bulb that lasted almost 40 hours. The next year in 1880 Edison improved his bulbs to last a meager 50 days.
Today we can use our smartphones to turn on lights. We can also ask digital assistants like Alexa or Google Home to turn on lights with our voice. We have motion sensing switches in rooms which turn on lights by walking past a sensor and again not having to lift a finger. Science fiction writers can think of ways for the future but candles still do the same thing they have for hundreds of years. Many still like the ambiance that candles bring to a room. Some like candles for fragrance. Everyone can benefit from having candles in a modern home, even though they need to be lit manually!
I implore all to find a fancy, quirky or plain old candlestick to hold those candles proud.
